Starting a business is tough business, no doubt about it. That's not necessarily a bad thing though. If it were more accessible there would be even more competition for you to deal with.

Have a gander at these three habits that will aid you in the rewarding journey of starting a business.

1. Never Miss a Chance to Promote Yourself, Humbly.

Every single time you speak to someone new you're presented with the opportunity to advertise your services. It's safe to say that every business owner can benefit from face-to-face networking or selling. Just don't shove your business card down people's throats.

Top entrepreneurs are smooth, subtle, and decisive. Find a way to slip in the conversation what your business can do for your new acquaintance (if it's relevant) after asking all about them. This is one of those habits that is relatively hard to master but will do wonders for your business, so go and stock up on business cards and pitch someone at your next networking event.

2. Get Your Hands Dirty.

In short, don't be afraid to clean the toilet.  When I interviewed billionaire Jeff Hoffman (Founder of priceline.com) He told me a story where he picked up the dry cleaning of one of his newest entry level employees.  The newer employee didn't even know Jeff was the CEO when he made the request, but Jeff chose to do it anyway since the employee was focused, and yielding results.

Not being afraid to serve your team members will raise morale within your business. It is a well-known fact that everyone loves a leader that leads by example.  Founders, swallow your pride and don't be afraid to pick your intern up a coffee every once in a while.

3. Be Optimistic!

This is the most important habit to form to have a successful business. After interviewing multiple billionaires, venture capitalists, and heavy hitting entrepreneurs on the Handshakin Video Series, this is

The one mindset they all have in common:  "The glass is half full."

How do you do this exactly? The simplest way is to pay attention to your thoughts throughout the day. If you catch yourself complaining or criticizing something, choose a more helpful approach to the problem. When it gets to the point where you can no longer remain positive, it is almost always best to take a short break... be a problem solver.

No matter what industry your business is a part of, it will benefit from you practicing these three habits. There are lots of other things to master before opening a business, but having these three under your belt will make it easier to have a smooth start to your operation.
